At approximately 6:00 a.m. this morning, a Dodge Dart with five passengers pulled over into the right shoulder on I-83 to tend to a child in the rear seat. As the driver opened the rear passenger-side door, a pickup truck traveling southbound on I-83 crashed into the rear of the stopped vehicle.
The victim, a seven-year-old child, was catastrophically injured. A Good Samaritan transported the child and his father to GBMC. The child was then taken to Johns Hopkins Children’s Center for further treatment, but was unfortunately pronounced deceased by hospital personnel. An investigation is ongoing into the cause of the crash. Police do not believe alcohol was a contributing factor. Charges against the pickup truck driver are pending the outcome of the investigation. The pickup truck driver reported no injuries.
