Nationwide, the average risk of deadly infections remains high, with rates of Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, central line-associated bloodstream infections, and catheter-associated urinary tract infections increasing when compared to pre-pandemic measures.
The report also noted a decline in patient experience measures, such as communication from doctors. The Leapfrog Group warns that these findings should serve as a wake-up call for hospitals to recommit to patient safety and build more resilience, as infections like these can be life-threatening for some patients.
There are six hospitals in Maryland that received an A grade, while 13 hospitals received a B grade, 14 hospitals received a C grade, and only two hospitals received a D grade. Fortunately, no hospitals in the state received an F grade.
